Sound Poetry : A Noise Lunch Reading
Sound Poetry : A Noise Lunch Reading
In celebration of National Poetry Month, the theme for this Noise Lunch is “Sound Poetry.” Just as anything can be music, so too can anything be poetry, and anyone can be a poet. While previous Noise Lunches have been framed as concerts, this one should be framed as a poetry reading, with each performed piece being a poem rather than a song or a set. Again, this is not to say that everyone should be reading text from a piece of paper; that is certainly allowed, but a poem can also be wordless, full of noise and movement. Whether it’s a tribute to an actual sub-genre of sound poetry (Dada, Lettrism, etc), a flurry of vocal madness, an electronic burst of expression, a dance routine, or something else entirely—the point is to showcase how notions of “poetry” and “reading” are closely connected to sound and noise.
